The importance of keratin for hair has been implied for years now. It’s often referred to as a super-nutrient for the hair. Keratin is used as an additive to shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and just about anything you can put on your head or body. But, is keratin really the answer to lustrious hair? If so, what is the best method of using it?

What is Keratin?

Keratin is a protein naturally found and produced in the body. Your hair, depending on your ethnicity, is comprised of about 90% keratin. It is extremely valuable for supporting and protecting the structure of healthy hair, as well as skin and nails. As the result of age, and/or poor diet, our bodies get less and less efficient at building keratin blocks, resulting in weak hair susceptible to damage. Hair with too little keratin will feel brittle and appear dull and rough in texture.

The Problem with Keratin

Like any protein, the components of keratin must be broken down into smaller portions for the body, hair, or skin to absorb and use it. Keratin hair treatments have been used for years to manually bond keratin to the hair. These treatments, while very effective at smoothing and promoting the appearance of healthy hair in the short term, are accompanied with high heat and harsh chemicals, leading to more damage to the hair in the long term.

Further, countless keratin shampoos and keratin topicals are sold each year with the promise of fortifying damaged hair, but the results of using these products may surprise you. The excess protein deposited on the hair from these topicals will leech precious moisture from your hair and tip its natural moisture/protein balance towards more dryness and breakage.

Alas, keratin treatments and topicals are expensive and ineffective remedies for weak and damaged hair because they fail to solve the “root” problem—nutrient deficiencies from the stress of age or diet.

The Keratin Solution – Cynatine® HNS

Boosting keratin production in the body through amino acids has been a core strategy for many beauty regimens, but hasn’t been all that easy to achieve. Recently, there has been a breakthrough in technology, allowing keratin to be used more successfully as a beauty-from-within dietary supplement for hair, skin, and nail health.

The answer is Cynatine® HNS.

Years of research led to a special process to make keratin usable in dietary supplement form. This form of keratin, called Cynatine® HNS, is a highly solubilized, extremely bio-available keratin, which has been shown to improve the health and appearance of hair, skin, and nails within 90 days.

Sampling of the research:
In a study, published in The Scientific World Journal, the effects of keratin supplementation for hair and nails in a group of 50 women was tested. They measured hair loss, hair growth, hair strength, and hair luster, as well as nail strength and appearance. Compared to a placebo, the keratin supplement produced significant improvements in both hair and nails. In a study, published in The International Journal of Cosmetic Science, the effects of 500 mg daily of a Cynatine HNS keratin on skin were compared to placebo among a group of 50 women. They evaluated skin moisture, elasticity, wrinkling, and overall appearance. After 90 days of daily use, women taking keratin showed significant improvement.

Other clinical findings:
